This dish is one of my favourite things to make and every time I make it, it’s always been a big hit and so I am super excited to be sharing it. It’s quick, simple and cheap but I promise you its DELICIOUS!!!!!
I am submitting this dish to the alphabakes challenge co-hosted by Ros from the more than occasional baker (who is hosting this month) and Caroline from caroline makes .This month’s letter is G so this is perfect.
You can find gnocchi in most if not all the big supermarkets here in the UK but if you absolutely cannot find it (make sure you try extra hard ok? Seriously if you have a friend that lives somewhere where gnocchi is easily available, give them a reason to come and visit you and make them bring you gnocchi) you can use pasta instead
Make sure you try this recipe, it will not disappoint. Hope you guys love it as much as I do.
OVEN BAKED GNOCCHI WITH TOMATO SAUCE
2 Tbsp olive or vegetable oil
2 cloves of garlic
½ tsp of onion granules
125g of smoked sausage – I used Mattessons
250g of passata
1 knorr cube
1 tsp knorr aromat
A pinch of salt
½ tsp of cayenne pepper (optional)
1/3 cup of mature cheddar (or any other good melting cheese you like)
400g of Gnocchi
Preheat the oven to 1800C. Place the oil in a pot and heat over a medium heat for about a minute. Add in the onion granules and crush in the garlic cloves and stir fry until fragrant; slice and add in the smoked sausages and stir fry for a further 2 minutes.
Add in the passata, aromat, knorr cubes, dry pepper, and salt and simmer for about 10 minutes. Take of the heat and stir in the cream and half of the cheese. It doesn’t matter if the cheese doesn’t melt completely now, it will melt when we put it in the oven later.
Prepare the gnocchi according to the instructions on the packet. Place the cooked gnocchi into an oven proof dish, pour over tomato cream sauce, and sprinkle the cheese on top.
Place into the oven and bake for 25 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
